McKay Joinery

Beautifully crafted timber doors, in all styles.

McKay Joinery can manufacture any kind of custom timber door, whether it's a design from contemporary architects pushing the boundaries of their craft, or a period reproduction to match a beautiful old house. We produce solid and glazed doors, suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, using a mortise-and-tenon construction method that ensures maximum strength and longevity.

While we often supply doors for individual residences and small buildings, we can produce doors at large scales and quantities, for civic and commercial projects. And we're highly experienced in producing doors for heritage-listed buildings, where heritage approvals of our work are required before final installation. We can supply bushfire-rating-compliant doors (and windows) too.

Some of the most common doors we manufacture are: full-light and half-light glazed doors, colonial doors, traditional doors featuring decorative mouldings, cricket bat doors, swing doors, sliding and sliding-stacking doors, bifolding doors, pivot doors, timber garage doors, timber gates, external timber shutters, entry frames and arched doors and frames. But there's no definitive list of the kinds of doors we can make, so we invite you to come to us with your requirements and we'll find the best solution.

This deep curved doorway and matching doors were crafted from solid American oak, for a residential project in Albert Park designed by Beatrix Rowe Interior Design. Photographed by Shannon McGrath.
Bifolding doors are very popular, particularly for contemporary residential extensions such as this one in East Melbourne, by Enviroline Design + Construct. The sense of openness created when these doors are folded neatly out of the way provides a stark contrast to the compartmentalised floor plan in the original Victorian home.
Many clients come to us to create solid timber doors that will make a bold statement at the entrance to their home. For period houses, we can work to standard designs or develop custom designs in collaboration with our clients. For new houses, the sky's the limit. Whatever we produce, it's made to look beautiful and made to last.
